Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@saeautomotive.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We recommend checking your car battery at least once a year, or every 6 months if your vehicle is older than 3 years.

However, you should have it checked sooner if you notice any of the following:

  • Slow or hesitant engine cranking
  • Warning lights on the dashboard
  • Electrical issues (radio, windows, lights behaving oddly)
  • You mainly drive short trips or the car sits unused for long periods
  • Extreme hot or cold weather exposure

💡 Good to know:
Most car batteries last 3–5 years in Australian conditions, but heat, stop-start driving, and accessory loads (dash cams, fridges, sound systems) can shorten their lifespan.

We recommend servicing your car’s air conditioning system every 2 years, even if it still feels cold.

Why every 2 years?

Over time, all A/C systems naturally lose refrigerant (typically 5–10% per year). Low refrigerant doesn’t just reduce cooling—it also reduces lubrication inside the compressor, which can lead to expensive failures if left

your temperature gauge climbs into the red or a warning light comes on, follow these steps immediately:

  1. Pull over safely as soon as possible
Continuing to drive an overheating vehicle can cause serious engine damage (warped head, blown head gasket).
  2. Turn the engine off
Let the vehicle cool down. Do not open the bonnet straight away.
  3. Do NOT remove the radiator or coolant cap while hot
The cooling system is pressurised and can spray boiling coolant, causing serious burns.
  4. Wait at least 20–30 minutes
Once cooled, you can carefully check:
    • Coolant level (only if safe)
    • Obvious leaks
    • Burst hoses or steam

  1. If coolant is low and no leaks are visible
You may top up with coolant or water only once the engine is cool, then drive short distances only to get help.
  2. If the vehicle overheats again or loses coolant quickly
Stop immediately and do not continue driving. Arrange a tow.
